For the first time in its eight-year history, the Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance opened its world to the public with a free display at Bennelong Lawn, Sydney, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience some of the world’s most extraordinary automobiles up close, set against the iconic backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.
The day unfolded as a carefully orchestrated sequence of experiences on Sydney’s Bennelong Lawn at the Royal Botanic Gardens. Vehicles slowly gathered on the lawn, building anticipation as guests arrived to explore the display.
Extensive coordination with suppliers, stakeholders and compliance requirements was required, including the use of track matting to protect the grass and ensure the historic site could safely accommodate the extraordinary machinery on display.
Guests were welcomed beneath a branded archway featuring Ampol and La Trobe Financial, setting the tone for a premium public experience. Media representatives and VIPs enjoyed a curated breakfast while mingling among the collection of cars, while guests were invited to explore the vehicles up close as custom branding and elevated styling guided them through the space.
A central stage served as a focal point for presentations and storytelling, where the history of the Ampol Trial, first held in 1956 at Bondi Beach, was brought to life, connecting the event to the rich legacy of Australian motoring.
The event also attracted strong media attention, with coverage spanning Channel 7, Channel 9 and a range of additional broadcast, print and digital outlets, further amplifying the significance of the public opening and extending its reach well beyond the harbour foreshore.
The crescendo of the day saw the automobiles depart in a traffic-controlled police convoy across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, captured via helicopter flyover, before being transferred by barge from Woolwich to Cockatoo Island for the main concours programme.
We carefully curated the procession combined spectacle, precision and excitement, offering guests and media alike a once-in-a-lifetime view of these rare vehicles in motion, flawless in execution so as not to disrupt the flow of events.
The Bennelong Lawn display brought a taste of the concours to the heart of Sydney, offering the public an opportunity to experience extraordinary automobiles up close in an accessible, memorable way. The day concluded as a vibrant celebration of automotive design, craftsmanship and heritage, leaving guests with a powerful teaser of what was still to come over the following days at Cockatoo Island.
